The Festival at the Cinematheque
The Barcelona International Women’s Film Festival offers a reinterpretation of the women filmmakers’ contributions to cinema history, we also suggest the revision of the pioneers’ work and we pay attention to the contemporary formal renewals.
Our selection for this year’s Panoramic, hosts the Spanish premiere of Be Natural, andocumentary with unpublished archive materials about Alice Guy, as well as films that explore the images of collective memory (Aïnata, Tswheesh, Extinção) or silenced memory (Angkar) with documents that, in very diverse ways, approach matters of actual interest such as the reception of migrants in Europe (Chez jolie coiffure), the youngsters’ fight for the common good (Espero tua (re)volta) or the recognition and respect of non-human ways of life (Black Pond). Cult filmmakers such as Jennifer Reeder (Knives and skin) and Albertina Carri (Las hijas del fuego) fight for the renovation of narrative formulas in thriller and porn landscapes. Barbara Hammer, pioneer in the formal rupture and experimentation, will be honored during an In memoriam session. We also dedicate a retrospective to the Helena Taberna and a monographic to Claire Simon who, through formal hybridization, has approached the socialization processes of infants and youngsters. The children screenings are destined to the historical initiator of stop-motion animation, Hermína Tyrlová.
We will finally be hosting the online premiere of the collective open call One Minute’s Video and the winners of the contest Shortfilms in feminine.
